# Private release usage for Go v2

For more information on how to get started with the AWS SDK for Go, [see the documentation](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/sdk-for-go/v2/developer-guide/getting-started.html).

1. Create a target directory to hold the contents of the unzipped preview build artifact: `mkdir aws-sdk-go-v2`
2. Unzip the `awsSdkGoV2.zip` preview build artifact into the target directory: `unzip -d aws-sdk-go-v2 awsSdkGoV2.zip`
3. If you haven’t already, add the desired service dependency to your **Go** project
   1. Existing service: `go get github.com/aws/aws-sdk-go-v2/service/s3`
   2. New service:

```
module example
go 1.20
require (
    github.com/aws/aws-sdk-go-v2 v1.17.6
    ...
    github.com/aws/aws-sdk-go-v2/service/yournewservice v0.0.0 // Add this line. The version number is arbitrary and will be overwritten, but it is required.
)
```

1. Enter the unzipped SDK archive directory: `cd aws-sdk-go-v2`
2. Override your project dependencies with the preview SDK: `./local-mod-replace.sh -d <path-to-your-project>`
3. Inspect your `go.mod` file in your **Go** project. You will see a number of **replace** directives after the dependency list which override the dependencies to point to the SDK preview source. For example:

```
replace github.com/aws/aws-sdk-go-v2 => /Users/username/git/aws-sdk-go-v2
replace github.com/aws/aws-sdk-go-v2/service/s3 => /Users/username/git/aws-sdk-go-v2/service/s3
```
